Changing Perspective on Death

Taken by 2,483 people

Who has not lost family or friends? Often the wish to have said or done more for those we loved and lost, lingers: If I could see them one last time, what would I say? What would they say to me? What might I ask them? Or we're consumed with questions: Is it possible to communicate with those who have already passed over? Where do they go? How to confront the inevitable challenge of losing those we love? How to face the grief and guilt remaining? A shift in perspective is needed to cope with such loss in a way that may help the soul to understand and grow. Also, as many of us know, death need not end a deep relationship. Perhaps a new language is needed to talk with those who are no longer living, yet not totally gone.

This is the original seed that took root and led to my online course for DailyOM. As with other extreme challenges in life, experiencing the deaths of loved ones — though difficult — can become an opportunity for our souls to grow. The eight weekly lessons will include short writing exercises as a way to explore the themes and clarify what our own beliefs are about what exists after death and how best to honor the dead and aid them onward, sometimes even continuing a relationship with those who have passed on. Discovering ways to both honor and communicate with those who are gone, yet somehow remain.

How to deal with loss in ways to promote growth, honor and help the departed soul on their journey after death are the goals of this course. Join me in this unique exploration that touches us all. — Catherine Ann Jones
