Have you been seeing repetitive sequences of numbers that are interspersed with 0s and 1s? These “split angel numbers” are trying to get your attention.
Perhaps you’re someone who is clued into the power of angel numbers, such as 777. Angel numbers “refer to any repetitive sequences of numbers that frequently, consistently, and synchronistically show up in [seemingly] random places in your life,” says Rebecca Rosen, a spiritual medium and international bestselling author. For example, you may notice them on the clock, a receipt, a license plate, or a street sign.
Numerology expert Josh Siegel, who has done more than 20,000 numerology readings over the course of his career, assures us that it’s common for people to repeatedly notice certain numbers throughout a period of their life. “I believe it’s the subconscious noticing those numbers,” Siegel tells DailyOM. “Your subconscious is giving you messages based on the symbolism of these numbers.”
But what if you can’t stop seeing repetitive sequences of numbers that are interspersed with 0s and 1s or have repeating numbers in unusual patterns, like the numbers 8181, 1121, or 733? Are those considered angel numbers, too?
Welcome to the world of “split angel numbers,” as some proponents have started referring to them. Much like angel numbers, split angel numbers are based on numerology, an ancient metaphysical philosophy that attributes deeper meaning to numbers.
“This is relatively new terminology for a not-new concept. It’s triple- and quadruple-digit numerology,” explains Siegel. “This is one of the most advanced forms of numerology there is. It’s more or less a lost art of highly advanced numerology calculations.” Siegel learned triple-digit numerology in the late ’90s from a woman named Jeanne Morris, who wrote a book called Numerology: Spiritual Life Vibrations.
DailyOM asked numerology experts Rosen and Siegel to break down what split angel numbers are and how to understand their significance. Read on to learn more about them.
What Do Split Angel Numbers Mean?
If you’re noticing split angel numbers in your everyday life, and are curious about what they mean and what the Universe is trying to tell you, look into the spiritual meaning of the numbers and how they relate to the lessons you need to learn, Siegel says.
For example, angel number 888 signifies self-confidence, financial abundance, and success, according to Linda Berry, a bestselling author and Angel Whisperer coach. Meanwhile, angel number 333 symbolizes creativity, harmony, and balance. Although numerology is an ancient mathematical philosophy, the meaning of angel numbers is guided by your intuition and how you apply numerology to the different aspects of your life.
Here’s a brief breakdown of what each number represents according to numerology, per Siegel:
1 = Confidence, leadership and initiative. Establishing identity and independence.
2 = Balance, harmony, and cooperation. Creating boundaries and reciprocity.
3 = Creativity, expression, and authenticity. Building one’s voice and identifying needs.
4 = Building, organizing, and practicality. Setting up an inner foundation and stability.
5 = Freedom, taking risks, and changing directions. Adopting a more free lifestyle and breaking away from limitations.
6 = Visionary and esthetics or service with idealism. Enacting internal acceptance and self-love.
7 = Truth, knowledge, and sharing information. Forming trust and inner connection.
8 = Empowerment, ambition, and manifestation. Establishing self-worth and proper values.
9 = Universality, humanitarianism, and reaching the public. Practicing empathy with healthy detachment.
11 = Inspiration, alternative ideas, and being a messenger. Forming a balance between highs and lows while maintaining belief in oneself.
When referring to the meaning of split angel numbers, the messages of the numbers are actually not “split,” numerologist Novalee Wilder tells DailyOM. “When we look at sequences beyond 1, 22, 333, or 888, no matter if these are mixed or repetitive numbers, we usually break them into smaller groupings. I encourage the person who sees these sequences to write them down and circle the groupings they see within them, like picking the keywords out of a sentence. Our intuition will tell us which single numbers, pairs, or sequences pop and are important,” she explains.
You can also dissect split angel numbers and examine the meaning of repeating single numbers. So if the number 1 stands out to you in a sequence like 1615, you would center the message and energy around the number 1 to interpret its meaning, Wilder says.
That said, there’s no one way to interpret split angel numbers. Although Wilder suggests selecting one number, pair, or sequence that stands out to you the most and focusing on its meaning, Siegel’s practice is based on Pythagorean numerology, an ancient Greek philosophy that believed the entire universe ran on numerical harmony. So he takes pairs of numbers within split angel number sequences and adds the digits together until they leave you with one number. From there, you can learn more about the significance of that number and how it applies to different aspects of your life.
To help you put this approach into practice, we explain how to break down common split angel numbers like 8181 and 733 below.

What Does Split Angel Number 8181 Signify?
If you were to keep seeing 8181, here’s how you would break down that number, according to Siegel: Extract 81 and 81 out and add them together (leaving you with 162). Cut 162 down into 16 and 2, and add them together (leaving you with 18). Finally, add 1 and 8 (leaving you with 9).
Siegel will have you notice how the original number is two 81s, but it adds down to an 18 (9 + 9), which is 81 reversed. So you can see a clear numerical pattern where 1, 8, and 9 are being repeated.
“Eight is the number of power and authority. The number 1 rules leadership. And 9, which is what those two numbers add up to, is concerned with society, the public, humanitarianism, altruism, and integrity. That right there is a real powerful theme of 8 (power) and 9 (society),” Siegel explains, which could create a bit of a conflict.
Based on these numbers, Siegel advises asking yourself the following questions:
- How do you balance your power and drive with maintaining your integrity and doing something that benefits others?
- In relationships (or work), are you aligning yourself with a partner (or company) that abuses their power? Is their value system in some way inconsistent with yours?
- Is it time to challenge yourself to fully claim your power? Is this the time to take what you do and bring it to the general public while maintaining your integrity?
Now, let’s move on to a triple-digit number.
What Does Split Angel Number 733 Signify?
The number 7 is sacred to every religion, and that’s indisputable, explains Siegel. (The seven-candle menorah, seven holy sacraments, and the seven heavens and seven hells of Islam are just a few examples.) Seven is the number of truth, knowledge, and education.
The number 33, on the other hand, is symbolic of a heightened sense of service. The low usage — the meaning for someone with a low vibrational energy — of 33 is being a sacrificial lamb, if you will, and the higher usage — the meaning for someone with a high vibrational energy — is being a teacher of teachers. The number 7 and 33 together correlates to someone who is enlightening and teaching others.
Master numbers are double-digit numbers that repeat, so 33 is a master number, explains Siegel. He advises you to break down the number 733 by first extracting out the master number, 33, and then adding 7 to 33 (leaving you with 40). Next, add 4 and 0 (leaving you with 4).
Four is the number of the builder, of pragmatism, and of structuralizing and organizing, says Siegel. The number 40 symbolizes coming out of the wilderness and building a new foundation. For example, Siegel references Christian and Judaic text, where Moses wandered in the desert for 40 years, and Noah and his family hunkered down in their ark for 40 days and 40 nights.
If you repeatedly see the number 733, Siegel suggests you ask yourself the following questions:
- Do you have a message to deliver? Is it a message of service or love?
- If you want to teach something or share something with others, what’s your plan? What’s your organizational structure and what are the grounding practices that you’ll put in place?
- Thirty-three can also rule the arts, Siegel explains. Might you bring your knowledge to the arts in a creative way? What is the step-by-step process of achieving that?
Angel Numbers and Synchronicity
Siegel explains that seeing repetitive numbers can be a form of synchronicity, a concept first defined by psychologist Carl Jung as “an acausal connecting principle, whereby internal, psychological events are linked to external world events by meaningful coincidences rather than causal chains.” Simply put, synchronicity is a meaningful coincidence or set of coincidences that can provide us with insight into our lives and our essential purpose.
“If you’re making big decisions or looking to find bigger answers in life, these numbers might synchronize to those kinds of events,” explains Siegel. “Maybe you need to get the message, if you know what I mean.”
